Little bit about yourself (including skills):
I am a very thoughtful, determined and loving person, this is what has given me my ambition to reach the goals I have reached to this day. I have 4 children, 2 of who are my own children also 2 who I have adopted. I have worked with care since I was old enough to get a job, my first job was a weekend laundry assistant within a care home in Westgate, I was attending collage on a health and social care course at the time. I qualified with a level 2 diploma. This is when I started my care career. I have also worked within other departments of care. I have been a supervisor for supported living adults with learning disabilities.

What made you want to join the care sector:
My mother has always worked within care as I was growing up. I use to love going into work with her to see the individuals she looked after, I loved to see there smile, as I was growing up I could see the passion my mother had for her job, As I was getting older I could see the difference the care workers were making to the individuals life’s. This was something I wanted to be able to do myself and that was to make a difference in others’ lives. This is what made me choose the path I took in life with a very supportive mother to follow. I chose to go on to collage once I left school to train in health and social care. This is when my journey started.

Experience in care:
I have 12 years with care experience. I qualified when I was 18 years old. I worked within care setting from the age of 16 as I was a weekend laundry assistant in a residential care home while I was studying in collage. Once I qualified with my NVQ level 2 I went to work in a care home, this is were I did my NVQ level 3, I then wanted to move on and work in the community this is when my leadership started to commence. I became a senior career in the community, I then chose to take a different path with the care sector and moved on to supporting adults with learning disability’s which I did enjoy this and followed my journey here for 5 years this is when I decided I wanted to take my career to the next level so I signed up to do my NVQ level 5 with management. I have worked in residential care homes, dementia care homes and have done a lot of training through my time with care and find this all beneficial to each day I work. My ambition in life was to be a care home manager and I have finally got to that goal with all the hard work I have achieved.

What you love about your care home:
I love that the care home I am a manager of because it is so warm, loving and welcoming. we make every resident feel like individuals and we support to each person needs. We support the families to our best abilities with their loved ones who live with us. We have the most beautiful front court yard which our residents totally love in the summer months.
